🙋🏻♀️💐Hello June….Saturday, it’s 52° outside this morning and 60.8° inside! 🥶 Brrrr!!! 8:30am and its oatmeal, blueberries and coffee & teatime. 9am its 55°. Dressed and packed and at 11am headed down the winding, narrow Ca 1 HWY! No guard rails!! 🤦🏻♂️ We stopped about 11:30 for there was a roadside stand selling California Cherries 🍒 so had to buy a big bag! As we traveled, the road was still in the clouds, which made it hard to see the front of the truck. Came upon Old Creek Road and it had a sign saying… RV Trailers NOT ADVISED! HMMMM. Fields & Fields, all the way the mountains were covered in vineyards. 12:15 took the exit to Bakersfield to go to our friends Jim & Kelly’s favorite winery. 12:30 we arrived at Tobin James Cellars and did the wine tasting there and called our friends. 3:10pm stopped for diesel in King City, Ca…. $4.95/gal ~ 33.9 gallons = $168.54
4:10pm We arrived at Pinnacles National Park and as we drove in, Tim stopped and we both looked at each other like….WTH…It has a pool and it’s packed!!! First stop was the dump station and filled up with fresh water! We arrived at site 111D, needed 3” lift on right side. This is an electric site! After setting up we took a walk around 1/2 of the park. This park has the largest concentration of condor birds that nests here. The high peaks are rhyolite breccia angular fragments that were ejected from volcanoes and cemented by ash and mud! Tonight was Taco’s for dinner then we relaxed and watched the end of the Voice. Bedtime! We traveled 173 miles today.
Sunday ~ Heater was on most of the night! 🥶 7:30am 49°. Sunny 🌞 Slept in and relaxed. Ahhh…feel so much better! Made ☕️, 🍵,bacon, eggs & sausage. As I was cooking, I watched outside my window and door 4 wild turkeys 🦃 and 2 deer. 🦌 Lots of rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks all over our site too! Got ready for our day then walked up to the park office to get our passport book stamped and had done our Jr Ranger book online and instructed we needed to drive up to the front gate and see the ranger there! So, we did! We inquired about the pool and crowds yesterday and told that the National Park bought the old campground and since it gets so hot here, they decided to keep it for the locals! 1:45pm it’s 74° sunny with a cool breeze. Took a trail behind the campground to an old barn. On a ranch, which looks to be a great place for night sky photography! 6:10 we drove up to the old entrance of the park to hike Bear Gulch Caves and see the reservoir and High Peaks Trail. We also did Moses Spring Trail and down to a Bat Cave which is closed because they are breeding, and you could sure smell them. To get down there I had to climb up and over and through narrow rock formations!!! Our hike took us 1 hr 40 minutes with an elevation gain of 529 feet. We got back to the RV around 8:15pm. We were greeted by lots of California Quails, squirrels and even a Jack Rabbit with his long ears! Grilled chicken and veggies! Traveled a whole 5 miles today.
Monday ~ 9 am and 60° and overcast Simple breakfast of oatmeal, coffee and tea as we watch the 2 deer 🦌 right outside our door again! Today we got a new neighbor who has a Happy Camper in an old green color which reminds us of an old appliance! Oh my! There was a power outage in the campground (which we didn’t realize) our solar had taken over and it over heated! 3:40pm its 74°, windy with the sun occasionally making a breakthrough. Drove up to a trail head and did the 2-mile hike. Came back and had grilled chicken for dinner. As we sat outside it was like the Thumper & Bambi show! Rabbits, deer, 2 baby woodpeckers learning to fly in front of us as well as 2 quails. Before bed we took a walk around the campground. Tomorrow is a travel day! Traveled 6 miles today.😳
