☀Sunny morning – Started the day with Protein drinks, coffee & tea. ☕ Posted a blog & pictures then off to the brand new shower house to break it in. Gorgeous, spacious, bathroom, large shower and dressing room for one….but we are in the desert so we decided to conserve water and enjoy this large shower together.😱🤣😍  It had a rain shower head which we’ve never tried before! 11:25 all packed up and pulled out. 95* already. We are really out in nowhere when there’s wild burros along the side of the roads! An hour later we went through a Border Patrol Station….They asked a few questions, looked in the back of the truck while 3 other officers walked around the truck. 😨“Nothing to see here boys” as we went on our way! Lots of camera’s and mirrors all around and under the vehicles! As far as you could see…hot desert. 🌵

2pm – We arrived at Fort Davis National Historical Site, toured the visitor center, watched a movie and talked with the ranger for a long time about the area. We toured all the barracks, hospital and town of this site which was spread out on the land. We completed our Jr Ranger book and got badges and patches! At 4pm we arrived at Davis Mountain State Park at site #33 with water & electric. After setting up in was now time to search out for a Diet Coke. Oh Happy Campers when we found a convenience store (Celebr 8) which had fountain drinks! 🥤Next door was a small grocery store- Lowe’s Market and picked up a few items. On our way back to the RV, a Big Horn Sheep and her 2 babies came down off the mountain and crossed right in front of us as they ran into the tall grass on the side of the road. 🐐 Grilled dinner then took the skyline drive to Keesey Canyon Overlook to watch an amazing sunset, then drove to the CCC overlook and continued taking amazing pictures. We could see the 1 mile trail that lead over the mountains to the Fort. Beautiful overlooks enjoyed on this cool night.  Traveled 121 mile today.

Thursday at 8:30am woke to 53* with a high of 87*. Inside the RV it got down to 51.3* burr..heater went on!! We relaxed with our coffee & tea and enjoyed waffles with whipped cream and strawberries! Yummy. Enjoyed watching all the wildlife around our RV until it was time for our next adventure. 1:15 and 87* we headed up the mountain for our tour at the McDonald Observatory. We went through all the exhibits at the visitor center until our Presenter Judy Meyer called us into the theater for her presentation. Our first was a fully steerable 12 meter wide radio telescope which is at the base of Mt. Loche. We then drove up to Mt. Fowlkes to the Harla J. Smith telescope where we got to go inside the observatory to the 3rd floor to stand under the telescope during the presentation. Due to research currently being done with it they could not open the ceiling but were able to move the walls around for us. Next to the Hobby-Eberly Telescope 73 feet tall, 91 mirrors (432” mirror) compare that to the Hubble Space Telescope 44 feet tall, 27,000lbs with the primary mirror diameter 107 inches. We drove up to the Summit of Mt Loche which is the highest point on the Texas Highway system at 6791 ft. elevation and looked down at the valley.

It’s Diet Coke 🥤 time so off to the small town of Ft Davis to the one and only convivence store. As we drove through town, deer 🦌 were crossing the street! Found the Courthouse where we parked in the shade, enjoyed our drinks and I finished up the next post to publish. This was the only area with service. Drove over to the Blue Mountain Bar & Grill where we had BBQ wings & Gorda Fries with bacon and brisket on it and a drink. Afterwards we walked this old closed up town (2 blocks). Returned to the CG where we sat outside enjoying the cool night. Traveled 36 miles today.
