Thursday –Bright sunny, cool, beautiful day. 8:15am 60* outside and 63* inside! Travel day but after we had our coffee, tea and sausage & biscuits! Tim then washed Bubbles and we were packed up and on the road at 11:20am. Here we are Highway 290 when we passed the Deep Eddy’s Tasting Room. 🍸 I quickly looked it up and it was open, then I looked up Tito’s {since he is my very best friend} and they are closed to the public and no tours! Begged Tim to do a U-Turn, back 4 miles and he did!❤ We arrived at 12:15pm, walked the outside garden, then a tour of the inside. Unfortunately the bottling area was closed today but we were able to look through the window and enjoy the inside bar & outside garden. We each tried a Mule – one with Peach Vodka and one with Grapefruit vodka. Delicious! Back on 290 and on both sides of the road, all we could see were wineries & breweries. A few years ago we had been in this are when we visited Fredericksburg and we visited a few of these wineries.🍾🍷

Arrived at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & toured the visitor center to learn that visitor center was the state park and the National Park where his estate was, across the river. We looked at all the exhibits and watched the movie and drove over to the other side. First visited his birth place/house August 27, 1908.The house was rebuilt in 1964 by the President so he could use it as a guest house. Down the road was the Johnson Family Cemetery where he was laid to rest on 1/25/73 beside his family. Amongst these 3000 acres there is the Junction School House, his grandparents farmhouse, The Texas White House, a runway [which the grandson still uses today], the Show Barn and lots of pastures with Herford cows and they even there in the road in front of us! A National Park Farmer had to come and push them along for we were towing the trailer and couldn’t go anywhere! 😱😨 At the end of the airfield sits the President’s small jet they called Air force ½ for its smaller than Air force One. The American flag, colors,  and letters are identical as the full size one. So cool to see.  Then it was off to the LBJ National Park Headquarters where we received our Jr. Ranger Badges but these were special Eclipse Park Badges.

Another exciting adventure for today is that we drove to the Flagship Buc-ee’s store in New Braunfel’s! 68,000 sq.ft. Over 225 employees, 120+ fuel pumps and in 1977 Coca-Cola signed an exclusive contract with them! YES!!!! Filled up tank @$3.28/gal +51.89 gallons later = $170.67 Then dinner & Diet Cokes! 🥤 6:12pm arrived at San Antonio KOA site S-2 level site!!! Ate our Buc-ee’s sandwiches outside enjoying the night! Loved having green grass and a very clean campground! Walked around campground and then goodnight.  Traveled 175 miles

Friday, Day 12 – 7:30am 55* Sunny with clear skies. Showered & ready for the day of adventures. Started at San Jose Mission, toured the visitor center then the Mission and the church. We earned another Jr Ranger Badge! Drove to The Pearl and found a parking lot for $10.00. The area in downtown San Antonio provides a unique culinary & cultural destination. Picturesque green spaces with fountains for kids, picnic tables & benches, amphitheater & the 3rd campus of The Culinary Institute of America. This area founded in 1883 by Pearl Brewing Company was an American Brewery. We had lunch in the Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery. Tim enjoyed the Silver King IPA. Walked around the whole area on such a beautiful day. On way back stopped and got our Diet Cokes, washed the truck & then started our 5 loads of laundry at the KOA. $16.75 not bad! Traveled only 23 miles today.
