4:50 AM …Monday, April 1, 2024….No this isn’t an April Fool”s Joke, we pulled out of our driveway headed towards the Turnpike. 60* out! 🥶 We’re super excited & ready for this adventure! 8:15 am our first break at Okahumpka Service plaza to stretch our legs & BR break & ……for the first time I was able to heat up breakfast sandwiches in the microwave in the parking lot thanks to our new 800 watts of solar and 800 amp hour batteries. SWEET! Yes we’re still in Florida….10:17am got on I-10. 12:15pm Stopped at a Speedway for Diet Cokes in Midway. 12:35pm Updated our Sirius XM 🎶. Time change just gave us an extra hour! 🕰️

2:15 pm Arrived at Blackwater River State Park We’re excited for the ranger told us we have the largest site in the campground! Site # 11 OMG she wasn’t kidding….we had our Airstream, our dually and still had room for at least 3 other vehicles. Great level full hook up site! We set up the walked around our loop. Enjoyed a drink, dinner then just relaxed. Today we drove 10 hours …583 miles. 😴 9:45pm in bed!!!

Tuesday – 67* at 7am Overcast out. 8am coffee, tea, eggs & sausage to start the day off. Made a few last final reservations then took a walk around the campground over to the Juniper Lake nature trail and boardwalks to the River. Typical Fl swamp looking area. Along the trail we saw squirrels, giant swallowtail butterflies, a woodpecker among the pine trees, white cedar trees & cypress trees. Today there was a strong current in the river when we got down to the “beach” area!

12:40 we drove up to the Ranger Station to get some information and right outside was a beautiful Fringe Tree. We had never seen one before then we noticed them all over as we drove through the small town of Milton. Checked out Splash RV & Waterpark that’s along I-10. We drove all around the campground then walked through the pool area, lazy river and slides, the over to the cabins & wagons! Great place for families with kids! On the way back stopped at a BP station for our daily diet cokes! Then we drove along the Historical Fl S.R.1 which was an old brick road that opened in 1921. AKA Old Spanish Trail or SR1 which was built from Milton westward toward the county line 1919-1921 Originally only 6 miles long & 9 feet wide, concrete shoulders were added in 1926 to make it 2 lanes. In 1929 it was renamed HWY 90! In 1955 a new HWY was built parallel to it. This is one of the few existing brick roads with sections still used today!

Blackwater River in its founding days served as the main transportation artery for timber, lumber, brick, navel stores & ship building industries in the early 1800’s. Near the State Park is a Helicopter Training Area for all Branches of the military. So YES they we constant all day long over head! Then we packed up our site and got. Ready for early travel in the morning! Till tomorrow! Today we drove….26 miles! 😆
