Woke up at 8am and everything was wet outside due to evening rain! Made egg cups, coffee and tea and got ready! So it took a little longer to move things around before heading out at 9:30. It was 76*
Throughout the morning we drove through a few showers. The sun popped out around 11:30 but the sky to the SE was really dark. 🌧
12:20 crossed into Kentucky and it was time for a Diet Coke 🥤
1:49 crossed into Tennessee
🤷🏻♀️😬 Oops we passed the battlefield we intended to stop at but that’s ok! We realized it 30 miles away. 4:00pm we arrived at Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park. We walked to the museum and gift shop and got a map of the trails. It’s an old 2000 year old American Indian Ceremonial Site. Lots of cliffs & waterfalls from the Duck River along the trail.
The Old Stone Fort was built during the Middle Woodland Period, 1,500-2,000 years ago. Native Americans used the area continuously for about 500 years, eventually leaving it abandoned. By the time European settlers arrived, it was unclear of what the area had been used for which resulted in it being misnamed as a fort. In 1966, the state of Tennessee purchased 400 acres of the Chumbley estate as the core of what is now Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park.
We arrived at Old Stone Fort State Park campground, site 18. Big beautiful site. Electric & water! Set up then walked our loop. 🦌 Lots of deer & fawns all over the campground. They got very close to our campsite. Grilled fish for dinner then caught up on my journal & blog.
We did 347 miles today! We’re off to bed for tomorrow’s a longer travel day! Good night campers! 🥱😴
