😴Slept in till 8:20!!!! 😳😱 On the road by 9:55am!

Hayfields, cows, horses … oh something new….evergreen trees! 🌲 Noticing a lot of steel fabrication factories now.

10:50 Welcome to South Dakota oh and much smoother roads! Stopped in Deadwood, walked the town & stopped in Wild Bill Bar, where Wild Bill Hickok was killed! Tim tried Bells 2 Hearted IPA. There was a wood carver and he had a full size bull….so for my friend Kay ( deja vous of San Antonio) yup …. I hopped on! Left Deadwood at 12:55!

Deadwood is more of a tourist stop now. The city had its heyday from 1876-1879 when gold deposits were discovered there leading to the Black Hills Gold Rush. Population of 25,000 at its height, Wyatt Earp, Calamity Jane, & Wild Bill Hickok (who was killed there), visited there. Now the population is 1,156 and the entire town has been designated as a National Historical Landmark District for its preserved Gold Rush-era architecture, & now with casinos up and down downtown.

Off to Sturgis… 🏍 Only tents remain from the rally! We stopped at McDonald’s for ….you guessed it, Diet Coke’s & chicken sandwiches. Stopped in a motorcycle shop to look at rally merchandise. 2:05pm we stopped in Rapid city at a Sam’s club for fuel. ⛽️ A bit thirsty…97.43 gallons… 😳 $452.71 later!

We arrived in Custer and it was pouring. 🌧 Stopped by an old coworker from Hospice…Judy! OMG …we got out of the truck … and it was cold! 62* @ 5:49pm 🥶 It was so good to see her, we had a short visit since it was getting dark and we wanted to get set up. We’ll get together again in a few days! We drove through downtown…what a cute town. Entered Custer State Park and even with the rain…. The wow…can’t wait to explore! Pulled into Legion Lake Campground…. Site LL14E! 😍 We got all settled, grilled fish for dinner then watched a movie 🎥 🍿 since it was still raining. Drove 170 miles today.
