Good morning! 🌞 74* overcast morning. Slept in till 7am & enjoyed coffee, tea and hard boiled eggs before heading out at 8:20. As we left Carlyle, saw the General Dean Suspension Bridge that spans the Kaskaskia River. Built in 1859. Its on the National Registered of Historic Places list! 😮 Who knew! 🤷🏻♀️
For the next hour oh my, farm land for miles…. dairy farms, corn fields, soy bean fields, more corn fields, a few cranberry fields being harvested as we were passing, tobacco fields and in case you forgot …lots of corn fields! 😂🥱😱🤦🏻♀️
Passed through a cool little town Lebanon, Ill. 4,418 population Like many places in “Little Egypt” or southern Illinois, Lebanon was named after the Eastern Mediterranean country of the same name.
9:15am crossed into Missouri and as we crossed the Mississippi River. The Gateway Arch was visible to the right (going there on return trip).
⚾️⚾️⚾️ Straight ahead is the Busch Stadium home of the St. Louis Cardinals built April 10, 2006. Retro-downtown ballpark seats 46,000. Favorites players from Cardinals are Mark McGwire and Albert Pujols.
9:40am We stopped at at the Route 66 State Park. Drove on the small section of Route 66 that’s there, then through the the park and over to the Visitor Center in the Old Hotel …Steiny’s Inn, overlooking the Meramec in Eureka, Mo. Built in 1935, as the Bridgehead Inn and served “elegant dining”. In 1946 sold to Ed Steinberg who named it Steiny’s Inn. He offered specials for those coming from St Louis or traveling Route 66. In 1999 became the visitor center of Route 66, hosing lots of memorabilia of the many owners & Route 66.
Roads in Missouri are just as bumpy as Illinois! Towing a trailer is a traveling earthquake, so can’t imagine what awaits me when we stop! 😝 🏍🏍 Yesterday & today we have seen an increase of motorcycles traveling to Sturgis, SD for the big Motorcycle Rally & music festival Aug. 6-14th. It was started in August 1938. Approximately 500,000++ attendees throughout the 10 day event! Motorcycle 🏍
Stopped exit before our next stop at a Walmart to stock up on a few supplies. When in Kansas City what do you eat? 🍖 BBQ! #1 food in Missouri! And the #1 BBQ place is right across the street. KC Baby Back Ribs! Next to 2 big truck stops and their top seller … Truckers Special! Took it to go and drove a whole 4 more miles to our destination for the day.
3:10 pm Arrived at our destination..Kansas City/Oak Grove KOA 296 miles traveled today. 1st site so uneven, Tim went up and asked for another site since we don’t plan on unhooking again to pull out early in the morning. They moved us to an upgraded area with all the 40ft + Motorhomes & the site had a small fence, paved patio area with furniture, a grill, bench and crosse bushes! 💞 More like it for what you pay for KOA’s but it’s only every once in awhile. We set up, cooled the trailer from 95* inside to 86 within an hour. Had our dinner 🥘 OMG delicious BBQ ribs, burnt ends, pulled pork, green beans & Mac n cheese! Put our swimsuits on, had happy hour in the pool 🍷🥃 while doing a load of 🧺 laundry! Nice relaxing night. Watching a few We You Tube videos then to bed by 10pm. 5:45am 🚨 alarm for a long travel day tomorrow! Till tomorrow. 🙋🏻♀️ 😘💋
