On the road by 6:15am! God gave us a beautiful send off with such a gorgeous sunrise. I already was missing my new friends….the turtle trackers, but we will remain in touch, plus we’ll be back in September! As we crossed into Georgia, the child in me said we needed to stop at the visitor center and act like tourists! 😂 And we did. Next stop was in Albany to fuel up & stretch our legs at a Sam’s Club, of course not empty handed! Churro’s, avocados & a case of water! Not bad! 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️😄
After 400 miles, 8 1/2 hours later arrive at R. Shaefer Heard Campground! This Corps Of Engineers Park (COE) is a waterfront facility on the southern shore of West Point Lake, which spans parts of Alabama and Georgia. This man-made lake has 525 miles of shoreline that provides excellent opportunities for fishing, camping, boating and other recreational activities. Surrounded by rolling fields and deep forests that display outstanding fall foliage, West Point Lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River on the Alabama-Georgia state line. The campground is forested and overlooks the 25,900-acre lake.
What an amazing campground! Sites are on the water, some with wooden decks and stairs going to the waters edge. We were tired of sitting so we got on our bikes and checked out every loop & down by the boat ramp! Spectacular place! Then we sat by the water at our site watching as wild geese came up to visit, birds flying all around, butterflies visiting and then 2 ospreys putting on a show right above our heads! That’s a wrap! Good night! 💤😴🌙
