😱 I’m so confused today with what time it is because we left Utah, crossed into Arizona to then go back into Utah! ⏰ 😂 In Utah you can’t buy wine or alcohol in stores (only beer 3.2%) you have to go to a State Liquor store which are not easy to find so when we crossed into Arizona they had a “last chance liquor store” so we got some wine! Scenery was…..yup more rocks as far as you could see! We stopped at Pipe Springs National Monument which was an amazingly awesome surprise! We were able to catch the tour of the fort. What a great restoration of the fort and settlement for we felt like we were in a real western town! Pipe Springs lies in a vast desert between the Grand Canyon and the Vermillion Cliffs of northern Arizona. Ancestral Puebloan people arrived around 300 BCE, followed by related Southern Paiute tribes who still live here due to the water that slowly percolates down to impermeable layers. In 1700s, Spanish missionaries and explorers passed through. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints(Mormons) came to area and settled in mid 1800s. Pipe Springs meant 3 things; water, shade and rest for hundreds of couples and cowboys! Couples would travel 4 days by foot or wagon to and from St. George Temple to get a marriage license and then 4 days back to get married giving the over 400 miles the name “Honeymoon Trail”! 💒 We then drove through Fredonia founded in 1885. So much history in this area. We got to Kanab to set up and go on yet another adventure for the day. Went to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park where YES we took out our red saucer sleds we bought in Ohio when we picked up Ruby and slid down the dunes. A lot of fun but the walk up was tiring. Sand dunes are created by 3 factors, sand, high winds and a unique influence upon those high winds. Known as the Venturi Effect..after the wind passes through the notch and into the open valley, wind velocity decreases, depositing the sand. The pink color of the sand comes from the eroding Navajo sandstone. We stopped off at the Bureau of Land Management visitor center to scope out trails etc! The next day was hike our ass off to see amazing back country trails in 4wd to see slot canyons. Lick Wash trail, Willis Creek trail then had to stop at Mossy Cave & waterfall in Bryce Canyon since it was on the way back! A great hike and saw ice in this grotto! Now on our last day here, it was laundry time before we pack up to our next adventure in Arizona again! 🧺
